Review of Six Alverde Moisturizers

Posted by: Viki in , ,

I've been planning this post about Alverde facial moisturizers for a while and it's been ready for ages, it's just that I could never get myself to type it in as I usually write my posts by hand and this particular one turned out to be pretty long. However, after a day in our summer cottage and a cup of strong coffee I feel I can tackle anything. :-)

My skin type (and point of view):

  1. combination skin (oily at the T-zone: nose, forehead, cheeks, chin)
  2. tends to be quite dry around the edges
  3. oily but oftentimes not moisturized enough, especially after washing
  4. prone to zits and blackheads
I'll start my review with the lightest lotion of the six and end it with the thickest.

***

1.)
Carrot Moisturizer
(Pflegecreme Carotte)

[Click here to see some pictures of this product!]

Pros:
  1. It's a tinted moisturizer of sorts: contains carrot extract which gives a nice "healthy glow" but only when used sparingly, in which case it livens up my face on dull winter days.
  2. Gives my tan a boost in the summer thanks to all that beta-carotene in it.
  3. The lightest of the six I've tried so far which makes me like it a lot.
  4. Sinks in fast, does not form an uncomfortable layer on my skin at all.
  5. Smell is okay, quite unobtrusive, goes away fast.
  6. Seems to infuse my skin with a lot of moisture.

Cons:
  1. There's a limit to how much I can use of this stuff without looking like someone with a serious case of liver infection... Unfortunately, the amount my looks can still tolerate is not enough to care for my skin (except in warm weather). Otherwise this would be my favorite of the six because of its pleasantly light consistency. As it is, I usually mix it with some Wildrose Face Cream. (More on that one later.)

Aqua, Zea Mays, Glycine Soja, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Glycerin, Olea Europaea, Butyrospermum Parkii, Cera Flava, Simmondsia Chinensis, Calendula Officinalis, Daucus Carota, Tapioca Starch, Hectorite, Helianthus Annuus, Parfum*, Beta Carotene, Xanthan Gum,Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Tocopherol, Limonene*, Linalool*, Citral* *from natural essential oils

2.)
Sea Buckthorn Lotion
(Pflegelotion Sanddorn)

Pros:
  1. This one is supposed to be an anti-wrinkle serum, specially developed for mature skin.
  2. The packaging is truly excellent: the serum comes in a pump bottle so it's very easy to use, and most importantly it's hygienic.
  3. My only problem was that I could not reuse the bottle (I wanted to put something else into it, like hand cream) because I could not pry it open myself, and even though Dad could, he managed to destroy the bottle in the process.

Cons:
  1. It's quite sticky (similar to Aloe Vera Fluid).
  2. Takes ages to sink in.
  3. Forms white residue.
  4. Didn't do much for my skin either, but then I don't have wrinkles yet. :-)
  5. The bottle which seems tightly sealed at first does not manage to stop the lotion to dry out after all. In the end, it became very thick because it lost its moisture content somewhere.

Aqua, Glycerin, Vitis Vinifera, Glycine Soja, Alcohol, Cera Flava, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Sorbitan Stearate, Buxus chinensis, Butyrospermum Parkii, Hippophae Rhamnoides, Bambusa Vulgaris, Jasminum Sambac, Pyrus Cydonia, Xanthan Gum, Parfum (natural essential oils), Sucrose Cocoate, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol

3.)
Aloe Vera Fluid
(Feuchtigkeitsfluid Aloe Vera)

Pros:
  1. After having used so many of Alverde's other moisturizers I must say that I like this one the least of the six.
  2. It does make my cheeks rosy and fresh in the morning but that's about it.
  3. Scent is okay.

Cons:
  1. It's sticky, takes ages to sink in and feels as if I was trying to massage some thick soapy liquid into my skin, i.e.: it forms a white residue on my face which is hard to get rid of.
  2. Also, even though Alverde proclaims this to be a fluid, it is anything but. It's a light cream, similar to LUSH's Enzymion when it comes to consistency.
  3. I'm sorry to say that it did not meet my expectations.

Aqua, Glycerin, Vitis Vinifera, Aloe Barbadensis, Glycine Soja, Alcohol, Cera Flava, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Sorbitan Stearate, Buxus Chinensis, Parfum, Butyrospermum Parkii, Myrica Cerifera, Chamomilla Recutita, Hippophae Rhamnoides, Prunus Armeniaca, Jasminum Sambac, Pyrus Cydonia, Sucrose Cocoate, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Bisabolol, Tocopherol.

4.)

Wildrose Day Cream
(Tagescreme Wildrose)

This one has a night version, the only difference between the two being that the night cream contains almond oil. The day cream does not contain sunscreen and neither do the others, by the way.

Pros:
  1. Smooth and creamy, this is the one that best resembles a day cream when it comes to consistency. (In my opinion anyway...)
  2. I love the scent too. It's a bit strange at first (as are the others) I got used to it quite easily.
  3. Protects my skin nicely: it's the perfect stuff to feed my skin with during the winter as the butters and oils in it shield my face from the cold wind and seal in moisture as well, but at the same time the cream does not sit on my face and make it shine.
  4. I put this on before going to bed and woke up with rosy cheeks and a glowing complexion. Not all creams do that for my skin.
  5. No white residue, absorbs very easily.

Cons:
  1. Definitely a winter (or night-) time cream: just a bit too thick to my liking, but that's easily resolved by applying it onto damp skin or mixing it with the Carrot Moisturiser.

Aqua, Glycine, Soja, Zea Mays, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Glycerin, Rosa Canina, Triticum Vulgare, Cera Flava, Butyrospermum Parkii, Hippophae Rhamnoides, Xanthan Gum, Parfum*, Linalool*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Citronellol*, Geraniol*, Limonene*,Ssodium Citrate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Citric Acid, Tocophero, *from natural essential oils

5.)
Almond Tinted Moisturizer
in Naturell

(Getönte Tagescreme Mandel)

No matter how much I tried (and believe me, I tried lots of times and in lots of different ways) I simply could not make this stuff work for me. The formula is similar to that of Jojoba Cream for Sensitive Skin (See below!) meaning it's quite thick. (Thicker than most liquid foundations actually.) Whereas Wildrose Day Cream nicely relaxes and spreads on your fingers after you squirted out a blob, ATM retains its shape it takes when it comes through the tube's hole.

The shade is actually perfect for my skin but making this stuff blend in and look natural on my face seems almost impossible. Maybe I just don't get it or perhaps there is something seriously wrong with this tinted moisturizer but no matter what I do I almost always end up with tiny rolls of greasy pigment slowly peeling off my face. Sometimes I get lucky and manage to avoid this strange phenomenon but mostly I have to go and wash the whole thing off and start again with something else. On those rare occasions when it actually works, my skin looks smooth and velvety with a nice, fresh glow to it. Yet, even then there are always a few telltale signs of the sad fact that I'm wearing something instead of this being the natural state of my skin. (Which, let me add, does not happen when I use mineral makeup.)

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a secret to applying tinted moisturizer the right way? Enlighten me my dear readers, I would love to know.

Aqua, Zea Mays, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Simmondsia Chinensis, Theobroma Cacao, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Glycine Soja, Prunus Dulcis, Glycerin, Calendula Officinalis, Sodium citrate, Citrit Acid, Parfum (natural essential oils), Tocopherol, (+/- CI 77891, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)

6.)
Jojoba face Cream for Sensitive Skin
(Sensitivcreme Jojoba)

Pros:
  1. Colorless, odorless, preservative free and does not contain mineral oils.
  2. Very thick so you don't need much --> very economical!
  3. You can put it on damp skin to be able to spread it evenly.
  4. Softens skin, especially overnight.
  5. Protects very efficiently against harsh weather.
  6. Mum's skin did not show any allergic reactions which is indicative of the fact that this cream is truly hypoallergenic.
  7. Women with dry skin could best benefit from this cream.

Cons:
  1. If you use too much you end up looking as if someone had pushed a slice of buttered bread into your face, and that's not the look most women are after...
  2. If you want the heavenly scent of your moisturizer to slap you awake in the mornings this, again, is not what you're looking for.
  3. Might be a bit too much for gals with oily complexions.

Aqua, Glycerin, Simmondsia Chinensis, Vitis Vinifera, Olea Europaea, Palmitic Acid, Srearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Butyrospermum Parkii, Xanthan Gum, Tocopherol

I really hope this will help some people who would like to know more about Alverde products. I'll post more reviews (body lotions, Wildrose Toner, Algae Facial Wash) as soon as I have more time.

Thank you dear for such good information.
Unfortunatly I can't help with your questions, you're much better qualified.

Are you feeling better?

xoxo

I'm so glad that you're feeling better.
Yes, walks usually work well for the mood, and it's a god exercise.
My nutricionist is always telling me to get to walk, but ... I've been lazy :(.
Take care dear, always think positivily.

Hugs

Great review! Too bad none of these has SPF, though. :(
